Juventus share price makes huge jump after Ronaldo’s Champions League heroics
Ronaldo’s latest Champions League heroics led to a huge rise in Juventus‘ share price when the markets opened on Wednesday morning.
The Bianconeri were staring at a last 16 exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid ahead of Tuesday night’s home leg, having fallen to a 2-0 defeat in the Spanish capital three weeks ago.
But the Portuguese superstar and his teammates stepped up when coach Max Allegri needed them most, and produced a remarkable comeback to stun Diego Simeone’s men.
Ronaldo opened the scoring with a terrific first-half header and levelled the aggregate score four minutes into the second half.
Atletico failed to register a single shot on target during the second leg and when Ronaldo fired home a penalty with four minutes remaining for his 52nd career hat-trick, the Spanish side’s race was run and Juve had booked a quarter-final spot.
That victory is worth at least €10.5million to the Old Lady in terms of Champions League revenue but it also saw a major jump in share price when the Borsa Italiana opened on Wednesday morning.
Having close on Tuesday night at €1.22 per share, the opening price at 9am was €1.58 – a 24 per cent increase.
That figure has since dipped back down to €1.42 and plateaued, however that is still a 16.4 per cent rise on yesterday’s close.
Juve’s victory keeps the club on course for another European final, having reached two in the past four years.
And this time, with the Champions League’s all-time leading goalscorer within their ranks, there is extra confidence that this is their year.
“It had to be a special night and it was, not just for the goals, but for the team and their incredible attitude,” said Ronaldo.
“This is the mentality you need in the Champions League and we are on the right track.
“This is why Juve brought me in, to help on magic nights like this.”
